Happiness is a warm blog!

Okay so the title of this article comes from a long forgotten song; “Happiness is a warm gun” I can’t remember any more words from the song and it does sound a bit violent, but it does express my feelings about this blog well – I am very happy that I have a “warm blog” What’s a warm blog you might ask? Well the fact that it’s up and running is a good start, it alive, it’s growing. Soon it will be a ‘hot blog’ but for the moment it’s warm enough.  The alarm woke me extremely early this morning, my adventurous young son had to go on an intervention (more about that some other time) After helping him I returned to my nice cozy bed, but I just could not stay there – my blog was calling, my day was calling and my life was calling! All of them with exciting opportunities to be taken hold of enjoyed and experienced.  For years now I have bean getting up early in the morning and after being inspired by something I was reading, I would start imagining the audience in my mind. They would be sitting in some church or some lecture hall being stirred by my enthusiastic message.

  

They’d be encourage and inspired, not just by the words I’d just read, but by my life experiences and anecdotes that I would add to my speech. My imaginary audience’s lives would be changed. A few days later I’d be re-inspired and another virtual audience in another imaginary hall would reap the benefit of my latest insights. But now, no more am I forced to speak to my vain imaginings, now I have a real live audience, real peoples that I can inspire, enthuse and envision. I have such plans and goals for this blog, I have so many articles, messages, quotes and plans that I can’t wait to publish. This blog is gonna be a winner. Its not only gonna (I like that word) its not only gonna be fun and edifying for you and me, its gonna make me rich and famous. Well, it’s going to make me a lot of friend and contacts at least. J We need to get purpose and direction in our lives, this blog’s mission is to help you find that and help you live it from day to day. Stick around my warm blog and I’ll make you famous too!

The Whale

If you read the front page story of the SF Chronicle, you would have read about a female humpback whale who had become entangled in a spider web of crab traps and lines. She was weighted down by hundreds of pounds of traps that caused her to struggle to stay afloat. She also had hundreds of yards of line rope wrapped around her body, her tail, her torso, a line tugging in her mouth.

A fisherman spotted her just east of the Farralone Islands (outside the Golden Gate) and radioed an environmental group for help. Within a few hours, the rescue team arrived and determined that she was so bad off, the only way to save her was to dive in and untangle her a very dangerous proposition one slap of the tail could kill a rescuer. They worked for hours with curved knives and eventually freed her. When she was free, the divers say she swam in what seemed like joyous circles. She then came back to each and every diver, one at a time, and nudged them, pushed gently around — she thanked them. Some said it was the most incredibly beautiful experience of their lives.

The guy who cut the rope out of her mouth says her eye was following him the whole time, and he will never be the same.

Is “The Secret” Christian?

 

So the question is; is “The Secret” Christian? I am sure that the people producing it would not try and pass it off as Christian, nor probably would they want to. They may however say it’s spiritual, but the real question is; “Is it biblical?” 

What I find very amusing in this situation is that the very essence of The Secrets message; ”That the Law of Attraction gives you anything you want” gives you the answer to the “is it biblical or not question”  i.e. you attract the answer you require. If you want it to be biblical, it will be, if you are looking for reasons for it to be non-biblical you’ll find (attract) plenty. Now I am not saying that every precept is in the video or the book is kosher, its not, but by the same token there is much that can be learned and used for our advantage. The thing is that there is a lot in there to learn. Yes The “New Agers” give things a different slant and different names to things than the bible does, but don’t throw the baby out with the bath water. For too long Christian have been afraid of things that we don’t understand. We are very quick to label things “Eastern” or “New Age” or “from the Devil.” Most of us Christians are so easily threatened by the unknown or by things that are slightly out of our comfort zone. Well I have given two “The Secret of Faith” workshops recently and this is the written response I received from one of them: Hi Roy, Just to say thank you for the practical way in which you presented “the Secret” to us.Particularly with respect the biblical principles behind it. It opened my eyes to the fact that God has far greater plans for us than we pray or think, but we have the responsibility to “take it” and believe.  Nelia (translated from Afrikaans) 

There in a nutshell is my “mission accomplished”.  That’s really what I am setting out to do. I know that many of the principles that are in “the Secret” are biblical, but because of our fears and prejudices we miss them. The problem is that we have become so accustomed to seeing them in the bible that we ignore them. We don’t recognize them for what they are; “Universal truths that we of all people should be living.” The bible says:  “As a man thinketh, so is he” it also says: “If you ask for anything that you want and believe, it will be given to you” and “You have not because you ask not.” Well I would suggest that; “without faith it is impossible to please God” and maybe those of us who are not applying more faith are not pleasing Father God quite as much as we imagined. That’s what The Secret is in essence: Get you thinking right and live by faith. Jesus said; “I came to give you life and life abundantly.” Because some of the people figuring out how this works are not “Christians” we reject it. Not very clever, if you ask me. I have a God who wants what’s best for me, I believe he has opened this information up to me (and you to, if you like) so that I will come to understand how His Kingdom works. I also believe that he is big and able enough, to keep me on the straight and narrow, but maybe the road is not quite as narrow as we might think.

So what is our blog about?

Well over the past few months I have determined that my purpose; “is to be a model of Christian Abundance” as part of that “model” I feel that I must be discussing the various aspects of what that means. So that, in a sentence is what this blog is about; “How I became a Christian living in all areas of abundance.”
